Understanding Your Macronutrients

Macronutrients (protein, carbohydrates, and fats) are the primary nutrients that compile your daily energy budget. While calories dictate whether you lose, maintain, or gain weight, macronutrient ratios determine the composition of that change (fat loss vs. muscle gain) and your overall physical energy levels.

Macronutrient Split Roles

  • Protein (4 kcal/g): Essential for muscle recovery, enzymatic functions, and building lean tissues. High protein intake is critical during caloric deficits to prevent lean skeletal muscle loss.
  • Carbohydrates (4 kcal/g): The body's primary and most efficient energy source, stored as glycogen in muscle and liver tissues. High-performance workouts are heavily fueled by carbohydrate stores.
  • Dietary Fats (9 kcal/g): Vital for hormonal production, cell wall integrity, nutrient absorption (vitamins A, D, E, and K), and general organ protection.
